TOP LONDON BAKERY BRANCHES OUT AT PLANTERS FARM SHOP

Frankonia the Bread House has taken a bakery concession within the Farm Shop of Planters Garden Centre at Hurst Green, East Sussex

This follows hot on the heels of the bakery (until Covid-19 purely wholesale, and supplying most of the top address in London) opening a kiosk on Hastings Pier last month.

Owner Birgit Gunz, had seen her business potentially destroyed within days of the Government announcing lockdown in March this year, but has turned her business around and is now looking to supply a number of other concession outlets in Kent and East Sussex.  Plans are also afoot for further retail outlets, including some as solus bakery shops /cafés.

"The London side of our business is slowly starting to recover," says Birgit Gunz, "but having started home deliveries in the vicinity of our Surbiton bakery, I've really enjoyed having more interaction with our consumers.  I've long had strong connections with East Sussex and spend a great deal of time there, so it made sound commercial sense to develop my business down and along the route from London to Hastings.

"Now that pubs, restaurants and hotels are reopening, I'm pleased to be able to offer those in the area our products on a wholesale basis, and I am also keen to consider any other concessions or retail outlets." She adds.

Frankonia's sourdough breads, pretzels, croissants, biscuits, cakes and muffins (and other bakery products) are proving a great hit with visitors to Hastings Pier as well as the local Surbiton community as there is now a small on site shop at the bakery.

Commenting on the agreement with Frankonia, Ed Middleton of Planters Farm Shop said: "When we tasted the quality of Frankonia's amazing sourdough bread we were really impressed.  I'm pleased to report that the other products Frankonia produces are equally tasty, so we couldn't pass up the opportunity to share them with our customers.

"As well as the bakery items on sale in the farm shop, our chef Martin is also now using Frankonia bread for sandwiches and to serve with the home-made soup in our Planters Garden Café."

Frankonia's customers include such esteemed names as The House of Lords, The House of Commons, The Ritz Hotel, The Savoy and the London Hilton Park Lane.  The company also supplies many top London private clubs and caterers.
