The global francophone platform

PRESS RELEASE

    9 September 2020

TV5MONDE launches TV5MONDEplus, its international French-language video on demand platform. With worldwide* accessibility and content offered exclusively in French, subtitled in 5 languages, the platform aims at improving the discoverability* of francophone programming, by delivering content free of charge (AVoD) to all web and mobile media: internet, mobile apps and connected TV.

The creation of a global French-language platform "based on TV5MONDE" was announced by Emmanuel Macron during the Yerevan summit of francophone countries in 2018. Developed by TV5MONDE and TV5 Québec Canada, TV5MONDEplus is officially rolled-out today, Wednesday 9 September 2020, with the backing of the five governments that support TV5MONDE (France, Canada, Switzerland, the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and Quebec).

This launch further strengthens TV5MONDE's position as a public-service French-language broadcaster, adding a new digital dimension to its operations.

"Our role as a multilateral public service provider is to enable as many francophones and francophiles to share the values, creativity and talent of La Francophonie for which TV5MONDE is the operator, thanks to sub-titling." Yves Bigot, Chief Executive Officer of TV5MONDE

Offering general entertainment and cultural programmes, the catalogue includes a wide range of content: from films, series and documentaries, to the best and most durable programmes from TV5MONDE's partner channels, FranceTélévisions,Radio- Canada, Télé-Québec, TV5 Québec Canada, RTS and RTBF, together with its own productions (news and cultural magazines, documentaries), African co-productions and podcasts. TV5MONDEplus also offers programmes from high-end cultural partners such as the Musée de l'Homme, Collège de France and Centre Culturel Canadien inParis.

Eventually, the catalogue will provide nearly 5,000 hours of programming, with more than 150 hours being refreshed each month.

Accessible worldwide, on all devices and available in French, English, Spanish, Arabic and German, the platform also offers a sign-in option for an enhanced user-experience (resume watching, favourites...). TV5MONDEplus was designed and created with the assistance of the following companies: Red Bee Media, DOTSCREEN and ProConsultant Informatique
