New AmeyBriggs joint venture secures

£240 million defence contract

A new joint venture between Briggs Defence, a specialist division of Cannock-based Briggs Equipment, and infrastructure support service provider Amey plc, has won a major defence contract worth £240 million.

AmeyBriggs will maintain and manage the Ministry of Defence's (MOD) fleet of construction and materials handling equipment, and other key plant, until 2027.

Known as MITER, the seven-year contract involves the deployment and maintenance of key equipment used by the UK's Armed Forces around the world. AmeyBriggs will also support military personnel in how to use it.

Around 180 staff and supply chain partners will be transferred into the separate AmeyBriggs business, which brings together a wealth of knowledge and skills. Both Briggs Defence and Amey have wide experience within the defence sector and a proven track record of delivering successful MOD contracts.

Gary Clements, Managing Director of Briggs Defence, said: "We're delighted that the MOD has recognised the value of the AmeyBriggs proposition, which means we not only retain the

Defence Mechanical Handling Equipment (DMHE) and Protected Engineering Equipment contracts, but also take on responsibility for delivering the C-vehicle Capability.

"We look forward to developing our long-term relationship with the MOD and by capitalising on the skills and resources of both businesses and maximising technological developments to enhance service delivery and provide innovative solutions we can ensure a sustained and consistent service for British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force personnel on deployed operations at home and overseas."
