tesa® go the extra mile for local children’s charity

tesa®, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of technical adhesive tape, has continued its ongoing partnership with a local charity, Ride High, who work with some of the most disadvantaged and isolated children in Milton Keynes.

Children aged 5-19 years old attend Ride High to learn how to ride and care for horses, take part in activities and projects, enjoy educational visits and residential trips during the school holidays and gain volunteering and work experience opportunities. The charity provides disadvantaged and vulnerable children with a safe and secure environment that allows them to build the confidence and essential life skills they need to have happy and positive futures.

Last weekend, tesa® supported Ride High by contributing to their ‘100-mile cycle challenge’, which has successfully raised over £3000 for the charity so far. Due to Covid-19, charity fundraising events have taken a hit, so following the cancellation of ‘Ride London 100’ the team decided to create their own event to support this fantastic cause. Ride High’s Helen Dixon, Cawleys Dave Buckingham and Nigel Ingram and tesa®’s Christian Knightly decided to cycle their own 100-mile route starting at the Ride High stables in Loughton, Milton Keynes. The route for the challenge was diligently planned to circle through the local, picturesque villages and stunning countryside in the Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire areas. As the team finished their final mile and arrived back on site, each cyclist was presented with a medal, handcrafted by the children who attend Ride High during one of their recent club room sessions.

During the coronavirus pandemic, Ride High continued to support its members via a distance programme and activity packs sent out in the post each week. As restrictions have now eased, they have returned for their physical activities with the horses.

Helen Dixon, Group Fundraising and Marketing Manager at Ride High said “The pandemic has hit charities hard. The cancellation of ‘Ride London 100’ was yet another financial blow for Ride High, but luckily, we had a committed team that were determined to persevere and still ride to raise vital funds for the charity. It was a fantastic day with great people, a great route and all for a wonderful cause; we’re very grateful to the guys from tesa® and Cawleys for helping to make it such a success. Where resources are strained, the demand for Ride High’s services have increased, so the money raised will really help us to support more vulnerable children impacted by Covid-19 across Milton Keynes”.
