Sheffield graduate follows her parents' lead
A young graduate has followed in her parents' footsteps as she completes her degree inOptometry and Vision Sciences.
Emma Gage, age 22, from Dore graduated from Cardiff University after a three year course and will begin a pre-registration job in Merthyr Tydfil in September.
Ms. Gage is the elder daughter of husband and wife team, Alex and Sarah Gage who own family optometry practices in Woodseats and Crosspool and who met when studying in Manchester in the 1990s.
Due to Covid-19, Ms Gage had to take her final exams at home and missed out on the post exam celebrations and graduation, but it hasn't dampened her desire for a career in optometry: " After my pre-reg year, I definitely want to go on to do further training in a postgraduate course as Cardiff University Optometry offer a wide range of specialised courses."
When she's not studying and working, Ms Gage keeps in check mentally and physically by swimming, running and going to the gym. When time permits, she adds horse riding and netball into the mix.
A proud Mr Gage added: "Emma has worked so hard and done so well to achieve her degree. We're so proud of her. She didn't even let the bombshell diagnosis of dyslexia at the end of her first year put her off track: she worked with the University to get the help she needed and ploughed on to achieve a 2:1 honours degree."
