Yorkshire Wolds brewery hosts virtual sportive

Undeterred by the cancellation of its annual cycling sportive due to Covid-19, the team at a Wold Newton based brewery are hosting a virtual ride in aid of charity.

The virtual Wold Top Lockdown 60 ride replaces the Sundown 60 sportive that should have started and finished at Wold Top Brewery on 11thJuly.

Brewery Director, Kate Balchin explains the rationale for the innovative event: "We can't run our usual cycling event this year, and because our charity of the year Ryedale Special Families can't run their Yorkshire Wolds Cycle Challenge either, we wanted to find a way of supporting them as much as we could.

"The cycle challenge is Ryedale Special Families' biggest annual fundraiser. It raised almost £39,000 last year and that's a big loss to make up. We will donate £10 for everyone completing the virtual ride to the charity and we hope that lots of people will take part in this fun event."

The Lock Down 60 takes place from now until 6th June and online entry costs £15. Competitors have to ride 60km either in one go or over a five day period and submit Garmin or Strava proof of the rides. On completion of the distance, the virtual finishers will be given a discount code for use on the brewery's website and £10 will be donated to Ryedale Special Families per finisher. Proof of completion must be presented by 12thJune and discount codes are valid until 30thJune. To book online, visithttps://bit.ly/WTLD60.

Many of the Wold Top team are keen cyclists and the brewery sponsors the Wold Top The Edge Racing Team.
