East Yorkshire poultry business helps Hull charity

One of Driffield's biggest employers is lending its support to people in East Hull by donating chicken to a food poverty charity.

Middleton on the Wolds based Soanes Poultry is making a free weekly delivery of chicken to Hull based EMS that works with residents, community groups and local businesses in Hull, East Yorkshire, North and North East Lincolnshire to alleviate food and fuel poverty.

EMS' chefs Nickolas Grant and Paul White have been using the chicken to create affordable meals includingMediterranean Chicken in Chinese Style Curry Saucethat are available from community fridges throughout the area.

EMS' Chief Executive, Jan Boyd is delighted with the contribution that Soanes Poultry are making: "The donation from Soanes Poultry has been amazing. All of the donated chicken has been included in a number of our feed up to a family of four ready meals for £2. The feedback from the residents has been very positive and they really look forward to what the week's chicken meal will be. Needless to say it "flies" out of the fridges."

The Freedom Food project thatprovides nutritious ready-meals for up to a family of four that are delivered to community fridges around Hullis one of the many ways that EMS areworking with partner organisations, residents and community groups to develop effective projects that effect change. EMSdelivers the Freedom Food project on behalf of the Freedom Centre. EMS is an incorporated charity and was established in 2009.

Soanes Poultry's Head of Sales and Marketing, Ben Lee is happy to help: "Our rural communities are the life blood of our business. Many of our loyal and hardworking team live in Hull and sell our award winning chicken to local, family run independent shops in the area, so we're proud that we are able to support local communities in these challenging and uncertain times."
