New Network Celebrates Businesses Who Take Recycling Seriously

A new online recycling network launched this week is compiling a directory of organisations which actively recycle and encourage their staff, customers and clients to do the same.

Members of the public can recommend organisations they like, work for, or use. Each week a different organisation shares it story to encourage others to do the same.

All types of businesses from shops and offices to manufacturing and digital companies are included. "It's good to know that organisations we buy from are doing something proactive about recycling and reducing waste. It's important to celebrate the good things they are doing and give them some public acknowledgement," said Chris Davis who set up the Recycling Network.

The network aims to reduce the amount of waste ending up in landfills by promoting campaigns and projects like theFive a Day Recycling Campaignthat asks people to recycle five different things every day.

The network is designed to be an online hub for new and existing recycling projects, campaigns, organisations and people who are passionate about recycling. "We send out simple newsletters letting people know about new campaigns and projects they might be interested in, organisations who are going that step further, and the little things people can do to recycle more. The network is led by the public so we are always on the look out for fun and unique ideas and useful recommendations we can share," explains Chris.

The Recycling Network encourages and rewards people and organisations who recycle by offering free promotion, unique deals, member competitions and other incentives from supportive partners.

"There are many little things people can do in and around the home or work place, as well as action in the wider community. By becoming a member of this network you, or your organisation, is pledging to do more about recycling," Chris said.

As well as being a home for recycling campaigns and projects and ideas for upcycling, members can list their own requirements for items they want or need, and search for second hand items offered by other people.

Chris Davis confesses: "When I was younger I use to be terrible at recycling. Despite my best intentions I regularly forgot to recycle things or simply didn't know they could be recycled. I am from the Blue Peter appeal generation that collected drinks cans and tested them with magnets. I think it was the aluminium cans they were after, the ones the magnet didn't stick to. But I got it mixed up and sent them all the tin cans instead. Luckily I have three children now to keep me on my toes and they don't let me get away with anything."
