Happy World Book Day: Time School - Yorkshire school inspires children's series

Happy World Book Day - today brings us a lot of happiness and, we're proud to be able to help launch a book for children (middle grade) on the big day itself written by Yorkshire-born author Nikki Young. Nikki is busy doing a lot of school visits this week, but she always works with books and children, as she is an entrepreneur, as well as writing the Time School series. Nikki started a creative writing club for young writers aged 7+ called the Storymakers Club ( in July 2017. Nikki, who is also a Mum, lives and breathes reading and writing for children and now lives in Sevenoaks, Kent.

The Time School series is set in a fictional version of the town Nikki grew up in, with the school they travel back in time to visit being based on the one she went to – it’s a small town in West Yorkshire called Heckmondwike and the school is Heckmondwike Grammar.

Please see more information below (in the Advance Information Media Sheet).
We can send you a copy of the new book, with gorgeous cover illustrations by the epic Tim Budgen, and we will have advance reader copies of the second in the series, Time School - We Will Honour Them, due for release in June 2020 (Hashtag Press). We'd also be very happy to offer copies for competition prizes if you want to run something on or after WBD, and we can connect you with the author for editorial commissions about why instilling a love of reading and writing in children outside of schools can do wonders for their confidence (and many other topics) and Nikki is available for media comment and interviews too.
Have a happy World Book Day!

Time School

We Will Remember Them

By Nikki Young

When you're running late for school, then you find your usual train has turned into an old steam train, you know it's not going to be a normal day.

What you don't expect, is that it will be a ‘take you back in time' sort of day.

Jess, Nadia, Tomma and Ash find themselves spending the day at Hickley School one hundred years in the past. They are told stories of bombings, hunger, and fighting, from fellow pupil, Martha, the only person willing to speak to them.

After their time travel adventure, they work out the significance of the year, 1918, and plot to go back. They want to experience a significant moment in history and Jess wants to see Martha again. Not knowing why or how, Jessfeels a connection to Martha, and an obligation towards her that she can't explain.

Going back in time has its risks. Once you go back, there's no way of knowing if you'll be able to make it home.
