BSUH NHS Trust launches Recite Me accessibility software to support patients online

Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals (BSUH) NHS Trust has added the Recite Me accessibility and language support toolbar to its website to improve the way all staff, patients and visitors can access important content online.

Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust comprises an acute teaching hospital working across two main sites, Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath.

Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust supports the diverse local population and the organisation wanted to enable all its staff, patients and visitors to access contact information, appointment data and much more, with ease.

Regardless of people's disabilities, learning difficulties or if they speak English as a second language, Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust wanted to be able to support website visitors to access its website content barrier-free.

To achieve this inclusive goal the Trust's website needed to provide people with accessibility and language support, so it has introduced web accessibility and language software called Recite Me.

Recite Me's assistive toolbar has a wide range of accessibility and language features including a screen reader, styling options, reading support and a translation tool with over 100 languages, including 35 text to speech voices.

Simon Anjoyeb, Deputy Head of Inclusion, Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust said:"We are pleased to have adopted the Recite Me toolbar; it is easy to use and provides a comprehensive range of tools to improve the accessibility of our website.

"The toolbar is a popular asset with our patients and has enabled people that have previously found it challenging to use our website to engage with content relevant to their healthcare."
