Yorkshire's first whisky distillery wins a trio of tourism and taste awards
The team at Spirit of Yorkshire are celebrating after Yorkshire's first whisky distillery won two prestigious tourism awards and its whisky, Filey Bay First Release, won ‘Dram of the Day' at recent whisky festivals.
Last week, Hunmanby based Spirit of Yorkshire was crownedRetail Tourism and Leisure Business of the Year at theYork PressBusiness Awards and this week, the three year old business won Small Visitor Attraction of the Year at the White Rose Awards.
Last month, just hours after its official launch,Filey Bay First Release was awarded ‘Dram of the Day' at York Whisky Festival; an accolade that was later repeated at Manchester Whisky Festival.
The distillery's founders, Tom Mellor and David Thompson were presented with the White Rose Award at a glittering dinner attended by 1000 delegates at the Leeds Arena. Their success in this competition means that they will automatically progress to the national VisitEngland finals.
The judges' feedback from the White Rose Awards included: "This new product and visitor attraction has great potential and its back-story from farming to brewing to distilling is an interesting one. The visitor attraction tells this story in a very professional way and the tour of the distillery puts everything into perspective. Its team are very enthusiastic, and the warm and positive atmosphere is infectious. A thoroughly enjoyable and interesting visit."
Spirit of Yorkshire is open for tours and refreshments in the Pot Still Coffee Shop seven days a week.
