Pyroban asks “Are you active?” at LogiMAT 2020

Pyroban® will ask ‘Are you active?’ at the LogiMAT 2020 trade fair, urging intralogistics businesses with operations in, or near to, potentially explosive atmospheres to reconsider their approach to keeping people safe.

“In Zone 2 hazardous areas, it is important that drivers know when a potentially explosive atmosphere is present so that the cause can be investigated and rectified,” says Sascha Koschel from explosion protection safety company Pyroban. “Active gas detection systems on lift trucks play a vital role in this, significantly improving safety and helping to protect people.”

Zone 2 is usually found in storage areas, where flammable material is stored in sealed drums or IBCs, where there is a limited risk of spillage or accidental release. They are commonly found in transport or storage operations in the chemical, pharmaceutical, coatings, beverage, waste and logistics industries, among many others.

On Pyroban’s stand at the event, which takes place in Stuttgart from 10th – 12th March, visitors will see a working system6000™ gas detection console, ideal for use in these areas. They will be invited to activate the system to see how it visually and audibly alerts drivers of potential danger.

“Some countries have been slow to adopt an active approach to explosion protection, instead operating ATEX lift trucks that use passive, Ex d protection methods so that the trucks can work through a gas or vapour release” says Sascha. “At the show, we hope to educate businesses from all over Europe about why this could be unnecessarily dangerous for drivers, the operation and stability of the supply chain.”

Pyroban’s system6000 is a materials handling equipment conversion which combines active gas detection with other specialist protection technologies to help keep people safe in Zone 2 hazardous areas. It can be applied to most makes and types of diesel or electric equipment, such as reach, pallet, stacker and counterbalance trucks, VNA and picking equipment.

“In the event of an accidental release or breakdown in process which creates a potentially explosive atmosphere, gases can easily cross from Zone 2 into what is considered a ‘safe’ area,” explains Sascha.  “While these areas may be ‘designated safe’, businesses can still do more to protect people.”

For instance, Pyroban’s Gascheka™ active gas detection system can be used with any equipment, of any age to monitor the surrounding area of any type of electric, diesel or LPG vehicle or equipment and alert people to risk. Fitted on site to equipment such as forklifts, cranes, shutters and shrink wrap machines, Gascheka can get users active in less than one day, making designated ‘safe areas’ even safer.

Visitors at LogiMAT can see how the Gascheka system works on the Pyroban stand, where they can also learn more about Pyroban’s other safety conversions for materials handling equipment for Zone 1, 21 and 22 applications, which present different explosion risks.

As the European market leader for active explosion protection solutions, Pyroban actively supports applications across the continent and provides full support throughout the working life of a converted truck, anywhere. After sales support includes engineer training, part supply, technical support, field service technicians and Annual Safety Audits to ensure the continued integrity of the safety equipment.

Pyroban has been at the forefront of explosion protection solutions for materials handling equipment for more than 50 years, actively protecting millions of workers in potentially explosive atmospheres for generations.

To learn how Pyroban can help applications actively protect people from explosion risk, visit Halle 9, Stand B38 at LogiMAT from 10 – 12 March 2020 at the Stuttgart Trade Fair Centre in Germany.
