Fine Designs for Seven Mile House

DSR Tax Claims Ltd's New Headquarters Redesigned by Julian Owen Associates Architects

Work to refurbish Seven Mile House nears its completion with its grand official opening by the Mayor of Gedling on Friday 22ndNovember 2019. Once refurbished, this piece of local Nottinghamshire history will become the new headquarters ofDSR Tax Claims Ltd, a firm of tax preparation specialists providing assistance with allowable expenses nationwide. Managing Director David Redfern has brought together a team of the best local companies and tradespeople in order to retain the building's old world charm while providing the full functionality required by a modern business.

As DSR Tax Claims Ltd is a growing and thriving business, ensuring that Seven Mile House can be turned into a functional space responsive to the changing and expanding needs of the business was an essential part of the refurbishment project. Redfern explained "Demand for ourspecialist servicesis at a record high and thus it was essential that our new business space would not only meet our current business needs but also allow us to grow for the future and build upon our successes. However, with Seven Mile House holding such a firm place in local history and memory, it was crucial that we were able to pair the concepts of providing business functionality while retaining the building's original character and charm and we needed a local architect who was able to deliver on that vision".

Delivering the designs for Seven Mile House was Lauran Thorpe from architectsJulian Owen Associates, an RIBA Chartered Practice which provides imaginative, creative and cost-effective designs in the East Midlands. For the past 27 years the practice has assisted clients with feasibility studies, planning and building regulations applications, tender packages, and managing building contractors, specialising in energy efficiency and sustainable design. Lauran qualified as an Architect in 2011 after studying her undergraduate at the University of Lincoln and her post graduate at the University of Nottingham.  Lauran has always had a passion for creating spaces in line with the client's brief and exploring design options that may not have been considered, which was a necessity for the Seven Mile House project.  Joining Julian Owen Associates in 2015, she has worked on a large range of projects including new build homes, private extensions and commercial projects.

Speaking about her role within the Seven Mile House project, Lauran stated "While working on Seven Mile House, it was clear from the start that David had a vision of what he wanted to achieve in renovating Seven Mile House.  The timescales he gave to complete the work were tight, and through fast paced design, while building work was progressing on site, the premises have been upgraded and restored.  The high level of finish throughout the interior and exterior of Seven Mile House compliments the style and character of the original cottage while incorporating contemporary styles.  Working with David and his team has been a pleasure."  Redfern added "Lauran's beautiful designs have ensured that we have been able to make the most of this amazing space whilst ensuring that it doesn't lose its unique character. Her commitment to the project has been truly valued".

Seven Mile House will be officially opened by the Mayor of Gedling on Friday 22 November 2019, followed by a drinks reception for guests.
