Loss support group announces regular well being events in East and North Yorkshire

Further to the success of events in Driffield and Selby recently, an East Yorkshire loss support group has announced plans to host fortnightly meet ups.

Talking about Loss has enlisted the help of trained bereavement counsellor, Kathy Collinson and a team of volunteers to lead the groups in Kirkburn, near Driffield and Selby that start later this month.

Talking about Loss was set up by Jacqui Gunn following the death of her father last year. She explained the rationale for the extra support groups: "I have been overwhelmed with the level of support that we have had for the group since we set up in June. I have learnt from people who have attended events that regular meet ups in accessible locations would be a welcome addition to the social events that we host, especially as we approach the difficult Christmas season.

"Thanks to the generosity of Kathy and other volunteers and the kindness of the trustees of Kirkburn's Village Hall and Selby's Community House, we have the expertise and the venues to run these groups twice a month in each location."

The first meet up at Kirkburn will be on Saturday, 23rdNovember and the second will be on Thursday, 5th December. The groups will run between 11am and 1pm fortnightly on Saturdays and Thursdays going forward. The Selby well being socials take place between 11am and 1pm on alternate Fridays, starting 29thNovember. There is no charge for the events, but donations for refreshments will be welcomed.

"We have all experienced loss. Whether you have lost a parent, sibling, child, partner or a pet, having someone to talk to who knows what you're going through is a great comfort. I want Talking about Loss to help ease the isolation and fear surrounding death and to provide a safe environment for people to share their experiences in the hope of helping both themselves and others.

"The worst thing that you can say to someone who is grieving is nothing, so please do come along and join us at our new regular meet ups." Mrs Gunn concludes.
