GCPA ‘Brave the Shave' for Hope for Tomorrow!

Gloucestershire Care Providers Association (GCPA) have thrown themselves into their new charity partnership with Hope for Tomorrow by going the extra mile with three team members bravely shaving off their hair to raise much needed funds.  This brave trio have raised over £650 and did a very public reveal at the recent GCPA Annual Awards dinner.

Riki Moody said "There was no doubt in my mind to undertake the Brave the Shave in the hope that people will donate money and help keep the wheels turning.  Having recently lost my brother at the age of 41 to the hideousness that is cancer I am glad to have the opportunity to raise money for such a worthy charity."

Fellow ‘brave the shaver' Della said "I was very nervous about braving the shave as I felt that somehow my hair was part of my identity. Every time I look in the mirror now I realise that my shaved head represents a person who wants to show solidarity to some very special people who are fighting this monster called cancer. Hope for Tomorrow offer amazing support to folk who really are brave and I am proud to receive any donations to help this cause."

And Natalie added a very personal dimension to this by saying "Experiencing cancer first-hand and seeing the remarkable work and life changing experiences for people like me going through cancer that Hope for Tomorrow does, I felt it was important to use the GCPA awards as an additional platform to highlight the difference that this charity makes to people, it really does give us all Hope for Tomorrow."

Nikki Budding, Fundraising Manager for Hope for Tomorrow said "The total raised from the ‘Brave the Shave' has reached £657.09 which is a fantastic achievement by the team and being present when they did the ‘big reveal' at their annual awards dinner was truly memorable."

GCPA is a membership body open to all independent providers of social care (private, not-for-profit and charitable organisations) delivering care to people in their own homes or in a residential setting within Gloucestershire.

About Hope for Tomorrow

Hope for Tomorrow is a dedicated charity, bringing cancer care closer to patients' homes via our Mobile Cancer Care Units (MCCUs).

Fighting cancer is one of the hardest things any one will ever have to do, even without the additional stress of spending hours travelling long distances to hospitals to receive treatment. This is why Hope for Tomorrow brings cancer care closer to patient's homes, to ease the strains of travel and to give them more time with their loved ones.

We work in a unique partnership with the NHS helping to ease capacity challenges at hospital trusts. We now have 10 MCCUs operational in Gloucestershire, Somerset, South Wiltshire, East Kent, Lincolnshire, Cornwall, West Suffolk, East Essex, London/ Surrey and West Yorkshire, with two reserve MCCUs in place to ensure continuity of service during the maintenance schedule. We also provide a Nurses Support Vehicle with each MCCU, which allows the nursing team to travel to and from the daily treatment locations.

The charity won a Queen's Award for Enterprise - Innovation, in 2016. The Award is the UK's highest accolade for business success, and was made in recognition of our achievements since the Founder, Christine Mills MBE, set up Hope for Tomorrow in 2003.

Our Gloucestershire Mobile Cancer Care Unit ‘Helen' visits Tewkesbury, Stroud, Cirencester and Cinderford on a weekly basis. For details of other MCCU locations please visit our website:
