North Yorkshire malt whisky distillery wins second prestigious VisitEngland Tour accolade

The team at Yorkshire's first malt whisky distillery is celebrating after winning its second coveted VisitEngland award.

Hunmanby based Spirit of Yorkshirehas been awarded the accreditation ofVisitEnglandQuality Assured Tourfor the distillery tours they have offered since they opened their visitor attraction in April 2017.

Of the award, Spirit of Yorkshire Director and Co-Founder, David Thompson said: "We are delighted to win this award again, especially when you consider that we're such a young business.

"It's testament to our great team that we have improved on last year's score and we're delighted, although not surprised, that our staff achieved top marks.

"Our aim is to put Yorkshire on the UK and world malt whisky making map and this award stands us in good stead to build on our visitor offering that includes whisky tours, tastings, refreshments, events and distilling experiences."

Feedback from the assessor included: "The exceptional high score of 96% in the Tour section was well deserved as the Guide was exceptionally knowledgeable and demonstrated excellent customer care on several occasions." and "The excellent score of 100% for the Staff section demonstrated the pride and enthusiasm the staff all felt for the Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery, they enjoyed working there and it shows!"

The VisitEngland Visitor Attraction Quality Scheme is a quality based assessment and the accreditation reflects the visitor experience and the quality of the product and services offered by the attraction and its staff. It includes an assessment of the attraction itself, cleanliness, catering, staff and the visitor experience.

Spirit of Yorkshire was launched in 2016 and is a collaboration between farmer and brewer, Tom Mellor from Wold Top Brewery and his friend, businessman David Thompson. The pair have invested significantly to follow their dream of creating a Yorkshire whisky that doesn't simply replicate Scotch.

Spirit of Yorkshire will launch Yorkshire's first malt whisky this autumn.
