New northern contemporaryjewellery and silversmithing show announced
Organisers have have chosen the historic Cutlers' Hall in Sheffield as the back-drop for a new precious metals selling fair, the first of its kind in the region.
Goldsmiths North will build on the success of The Goldsmiths' Fair in London and the Elements Festival of Jewellery, Silver & Gold in Edinburgh when it takes place from12thto 14th July. The new showwill bring the best of designer jewellery and silversmithing from the UK and Europe to the north of Englandand is expected to attract over 2000 visitors.
Exhibitors includeBryony Knox, the Edinburgh silversmith featured in the BBC Programme ‘Victorian Arts and Crafts House' and Charlotte Tollyfield, the Sheffield silversmith who was commissioned to make thecentre piece for the winner's trophy for Doncaster Racecourse'sSt Ledger Stakes in 2018.
Organised byleading Contemporary British Silversmith, Brett Payne andRebecca Joselyn, Freeman of The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths,the show is being supported byThe Goldsmiths' Company, The Sheffield Assay Office and The Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire.
"We're delighted to bring over 60 specially selectedjewellers and silversmiths to the finest livery hall in the north of England, representing the best work currently being designed and made across the UK and beyond. We want to offer visitors a unique shopping experiencenot available to them on the high street - a chance to engage with and buy direct from the makers," says Mr Payne.
The show takes place from12thto 14thJuly andis open between 10am and 5pm daily. Tickets can be purchased on the door and cost £5 each, with visitors free to return on all three days with a validated ticket. Refreshments will be available.
MsJoselyn concludes: "We're looking forward to welcoming visitors to the Banqueting Hall at Cutlers' Hall and hope that they take advantage of our flexible ticket to make a weekend of it and enjoy some of the great amenities Sheffield and the surrounding areas have to offer."

1. Brett Payne is a leading Contemporary British Silversmith with over twenty-five years' experience. He is a Liveryman of The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, a Freeman of The Cutlers' Company of Hallamshire, a Fellow of the Institute of Professional Goldsmiths, a past Chairman of The Goldsmiths' Craft and Design Council and a Director of British Silver Week.
He regularly exhibits his work both in the UK and abroad and has participated in numerous exhibitions, most notably at The Pompidou Centre, Paris; The Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto; The Keith Lippert Gallery, Washington; The Roger Billcliffe Gallery, Glasgow and at The Goldsmiths' Hall in London. 2. Rebecca Joselyn is a Freeman of The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths and started her business back in 2006. She is based at Yorkshire Artspace in the heart of Sheffield's city centre. She exhibits her collection of work at a number of events and craft shows around the UK. Rebecca has worked on a number of awards and commissions, including a large oil container, which was on show in the Museum of Modern Art in Kuwait and the packaging for the world's most expensive coffee, which can be purchased in Harrods.
Rebecca's work has grabbed the attention of many journalists and as a result has been featured in newspapers such as the Sunday Times and the Financial Times' ‘How To Spend It' supplement. 3. The Goldsmiths' Company is celebrating its 700th anniversary in 2027 and has published its criteria for creating new and further ways in which it might contribute to national life.
