New Pastry Chef - Tewkesbury Park

A New Pastry Chef Joins Tewkesbury Park

February 2019- Patrick Jones, general manager of Tewkesbury Park, is pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Turnpenny as the new pastry chef.  Bringing a wealth of skills  acquired from some of the best kitchens in the UK, Peter has notched up some excellent experience in a relatively short space of time.

Cutting his teeth at Ashford International Hotel, in the signature Horizons Restaurant, Peter joined as commis chef, working directly under the sous chef. Three years later, he moved to the prestigious Lucknam Park, again as commis chef, leaving three years later as chef de partie.  In 2015 a brief stint at one of the north's most renowned restaurants, The Star Inn Harome, in York, saw him take up his first official pastry chef role. However, six months later, Peter was offered a role he couldn't turn down at the Gilpin Hotel and Lakehouse - a Relais Chateaux hotel. Joining as head pastry chef/senior sous chef, there he would oversee the overall running of the Michelin-star kitchen in the absence of the executive chef. In 2017, he moved to his final role before Tewkesbury Park - the Great Fosters Hotel, where he was the pastry sous chef, working with a team of six pastry chefs.

An absolute all-rounder, Peter is proficient in all areas of the pastry department, from breadmaking, morning pastry goods, to fine dining and petit fours. In his new role, Peter will spear-head the pastry department and will initially focus on creating new pudding menus for the hotel's new restaurant, Mint, along with the new brunch menu, which launches in March. With the recent addition of Tewkesbury Park's new events suite - The Cotswold Suite, which has brought in considerable wedding and event business, Peter will also have his work cut-out, creating innovative desserts that work well for banqueting feasts.

Peter's professional achievements include being part of the team which was awarded one Michelin-star whilst at The Gilpin Hotel and Lake House. He was also part of the second rosette winning team at Lucknam Park, and was a regional finalist in the roux scholarship 2017.
