HEATING OUR HOMES - A Policy Pathway

17th  January 2019

As the leading heat pump manufacturer in Europe, NIBE Energy Systems is working hard to ensure that the right government policies are introduced to enable the decarbonisation of our building stock, reduce the impact of heating our buildings on air quality and ensure clean growth. We have developed a short paper which sets out our policy recommendations on how to achieve a transition from fossil fuels to renewable heating technologies off the gas grid using learnings from other European markets that have been more successful in this domain.

Please find attached our press release and the policy paper can be downloaded from our website here:

The paper has been shared with key stakeholders and we hope that its publication helps to raise awareness of the need to tackle the decarbonisation of heat urgently. As you know 2019 will be a busy year in terms of government consultations in this space and this paper covers some of the important issues which need to be addressed as part of these.

The report firstly considers when should the government should phase out high carbon heating fuels. It looks at how to ensure that new build homes are fit for the future and provides a recommended definition for a future proofed heating system. It then assesses the barriers to the adoption of heat pumps in the existing housing stock and provides a number of recommendations to overcome the cost barrier in particular.

NIBE would welcome a meeting with you to discuss the paper in more detail. Moreover, we would be grateful if you could feature / share the report in any upcoming stories or discussions.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Kind regards,

Helen Dillon-Pearson
