Carbon Free Group shortlisted for Sustainable Business of the Year Award

Community Interest Company The Carbon Free Group has been shortlisted by sustainability website Edie in its Mission Possible: Sustainable Business of the Year Award for 2019.

Carbon Free Group will be competing with eight other businesses including Heathrow Airport and Proctor & Gamble Family Care for the prestigious award, with the winners announced on 6 February 2019.

The Award finalists are said to be ‘redefining what it means to be a sustainable, ethical and responsible business', an accolade that The Carbon Free Group is delighted to share.

Part of the Group's entry has centred around its recent restructuring, changing status from a Limited company to a Community Interest Company (CIC), which has enabled it to more efficiently deliver its sustainability initiatives and more effectively serve its membership, collaborators and society at large.

This new business model has raised the Group's profile and presence unfettered by commercial contradictions which has, in turn, accelerated its ability to promote improved carbon management with members and collaborators.

As a result, The Carbon Free Group has been able to develop novel housing approaches, e.g. 47 low carbon energy efficient houses in Corby and similar in Brenchley, Kent. It also has a team working on a circular economy showcase project in Sussex.

In addition, the Group is delivering ground breaking energy and distributed ledger technology solutions and is deploying state of the art energy delivery initiatives while the management team and networks focus on stimulating further innovation.

Commenting on the making the Edie Sustainable Business of the Year 2019 shortlist, Anthony Morgan, Co-Founder, said:

"Our team works relentlessly to develop new, fit for the future carbon emission reduction solutions. Changing our business model was a bold move but has paid off. It has given us the freedom to develop new collaborations and stimulate new innovations which we believe will prove transformational in years to come.

"We are trailblazing the way for new low carbon solutions, de-risking those options so that they can be accelerated and scaled up. We can do that because our networks are truly collaborative and fully focused on sustainability.

"Being recognised by Edie shows how far we've come as a CIC and highlights our massive future potential."

The Edie Awards take place on 6 February 2019 at the Park Plaza in London.
