Sister companies shortlisted for Scarborough Business Awards

Sister companies shortlisted for Scarborough Business Awards

Two Yorkshire coast businesses are celebrating after being shortlisted in the Scarborough Business Awards.

Established Hunmanby business Wold Top Brewery has been shortlisted for the Medium Business of the Year award and its younger sibling, Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery, has reached the final of the Tourism Business of the Year.

Tom Mellor, who founded Wold Top Brewery in 2003 with wife, Gill and Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery in 2016 with business partner David Thompson, is thrilled that both businesses have been shortlisted: "Not only is the Yorkshire coast a fantastic place to live, but it is also home to many successful businesses, so it's a real honour to be shortlisted."

Wold Top Brewery faces competition for the Medium Business award from Ellerby Country Inn, Castle Employment and Dennis Distribution, whilst Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery is up against The Stables at Cross Butts, Ellerby Hotel and Wrea Head Country Cottages in the Tourism Business category.

The awards, organised by The Scarborough News and its sister titles, the Bridlington Free Press and Whitby Gazette and sponsored by McCain, celebrate the businesses that fly the flag for the Yorkshire coast. The winners will be announced during a 1960's themed black-tie event at Scarborough Spa on Friday November 30.

Wold Top Brewery brews a selection of award-winning ales on the family farm using home grown malting barley and pure, chalk-filtered water.

Spirit of Yorkshire is a true field to bottle business and boasts some of the most impressive distilling equipment in the country, includingtwo of the largest Forsyth pot stills operating in the UK outside of Scotland.
