Local firm scoops accolade at

British Accountancy Awards

A Stafford firm is celebrating after receiving a Highly Commended award at the British Accountancy Awards, which recognise excellence in accountancy and finance.

Howards Chartered Certified Accountants were one of six practices to be nominated for Independent Firm of the Year - Wales and Midlands. The business was singled out by the judges for its ability to support businesses of all types and sizes with a wide range of consultancy services, including personal and corporate tax planning, payroll, pension auto-enrolment and VAT.

Representatives of Howards attended the Awards evening -hosted by Mock the Week star Josh Widdicombeat London'sGrosvenor House Hotel on September 26 - and were delighted when their efforts wererewarded.

In making its final decision the judging panel was split and so presented Howards with a Highly Commended accolade to acknowledge the firm's achievements.

The British Accountancy Awards highlight professional development and celebrate firms that have attained the highest standards in accounting and finance. Howards was one of only three of the 123 nominees, across all 23 categories, to receive this special recognition.

Matthew Bailey, managing director at Howards, said: "It's the first time we've entered the British Accountancy Awards and I'm so proud. The result is quite overwhelming. We came as close as you can get to winning, which is amazing when you consider the standard of the entries this year and the fact that we were up against the very best in our industry.

"Huge thanks to the entire Howards team because this achievement is down to their hard work and commitment to providing our clients with the right support to make a success of their businesses."
