Yorkshire’s first malt whisky distillery director invited to deliver masterclass

Yorkshire's first malt whisky distillery director invited to deliver a masterclass at Yorkshire Whisky Festival

The whisky director at Yorkshire's first whisky distillery has been invited to deliver a masterclass at this Saturday's Yorkshire Whisky Festival.

Joe Clark will share story of the Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery, from growing the grain to building the distillery from the ground up, and willoffer a taste of its maturing spirit as it edges ever closer to becoming Yorkshire's first single malt whisky.

Of the invitation, Clark said:  "The Yorkshire Whisky Festival attracts the finest distillers from as far afield as Taiwan, India, Japan and the USA, so it's a real honour for a new distillery that has not yet produced its first whisky to be invited to hold a masterclass."

Organised by The Whisky Lounge, the 10thYorkshire Whisky Festival takes place at the Racecourse from 12 noon on Saturday, 6thOctober and the Spirit of Yorkshire masterclass takes place at 6pm.

Clark, a published author on whisky, is responsible for tasting and blending the maturing spirit that will become Yorkshire's first malt whisky when it matures in 2019. Ahead of the launch, a limited number of bottles of maturing spirit are being made available. The latest one, Distillery Projects (DP) 003, is on sale now, with the fourth planned for later in the year.

Spirit of Yorkshire was launched in 2016 and is a collaboration between farmer and brewer, Tom Mellor from Wold Top Brewery and business partner, David Thompson. The pair have invested significantly to follow their dream of creating a Yorkshire whisky that doesn't simply replicate Scotch. The distillery is a true field to bottle setup and boasts some of the most impressive distilling equipment in the country, includingtwo of the largest Forsyth pot stills operating in the UK outside of Scotland.
