Throughout the Christmas season, Whitewater Gallery present an exhibition of work that showcases the precision, skill and beauty inherent in three of the arts' most refined disciplines - photography, glasswork and silversmithing.
Fine Art photographer Nick Reader trained at Edinburgh College of Art, and now lives and works in North Cornwall, creating specialist ‘wet plate' works that use a 150-year-old collodion and silver nitrate process to create images of unique quality. The photographs in this collection have been taken underwater with a high-resolution camera, then converted into collodion wet plate panels using a 19th century plate camera, meaning each panel is a handmade, one-off work of art.
Artist David Pascoe's passion for shape and colour is reflected in his finely crafted, kiln-formed glass. Working from his West Cornwall studio, he combines creativity with the highly specialised discipline of glass-fusing, creating incredibly detailed, dazzling designs that bring light and colour together in his distinctive bowls, vases and feature platters.
Jeweller Marsha Drew uses ancient techniques and traditional silversmithing tools to create pieces inspired by the natural beauty of the Cornish coast. Her elegant, handcrafted rings are made from sterling silver, combined with 18 carat gold, and precious and semi-precious stones.
