NEW TEMPOS THERMAL PROPERTIES ANALYSER IS FASTER, MORE ACCURATE AND EASIER TO USE

Labcell, the UK distributor for METER Group (previously known as Decagon Devices), is introducing the new METER Tempos Thermal Properties Analyser that is faster, more accurate and easier to use than the KD2 instrument it replaces. The Tempos also complies with ASTM D5334 (Standard Test Method for Determination of Thermal Conductivity of Soil and Soft Rock by Thermal Needle Probe Procedure), IEEE 442 (IEEE Guide for Thermal Resistivity Measurements of Soils and Backfill Materials) and EN 61326-1 (Electrical equipment for measurement, control and laboratory use. EMC requirements. General requirements). Capable of measuring thermal conductivity, thermal resistivity, thermal diffusivity and specific heat capacity, the Tempos is more accurate than any other instrument in its class.

A key application for the Tempos is measuring the thermal conductivity of soil when backfilling trenches in which power cables have been laid; another use for the Tempos is checking pipe insulation. However, the Tempos is even more versatile than its predecessor, as it can measure the thermal conductivity of liquids. This creates new opportunities for testing engine coolants and transformer cooling oils, for example.

METER's design engineers have given the Tempos an all-new external design featuring an elastomeric covering to provide a secure grip, a daylight-readable colour graphical display, and large buttons that are easy to operate, even when wearing gloves. The instrument is lightweight and comes in a carry case that has space for storing the interchangeable sensors.

By carefully controlling the sensor needle heating, the Tempos can capture measurements regardless of the ambient conditions, which improves its accuracy significantly. Furthermore, the analyser also obtains readings more quickly, in around one minute, compared with three to four minutes for the KD2 and 10 to 15 minutes for other instruments. Users therefore save considerable amounts of time, particularly when multiple measurements need to be made.

The Tempos has a long battery life and it can also be left unattended to log data over extended periods for later downloading to a computer for storage and analysis.

To complement the Tempos, Labcell offers the full range of compatible sensors. These are: the KS-3 with a single 6 cm needle for measuring thermal conductivity; the TR-3 with a single 10 cm needle for measuring thermal conductivity; the SH-3 with 3 cm dual needles for measuring thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity and volumetric specific heat capacity; and the RK-3 with a single 6 cm thick needle for measuring thermal conductivity.

Labcell is the sole UK distributor for the METER Tempos thermal properties analyser.
