Meet Hector, May, and their children Sylva, Sippie and Baby Cappy Teaspoon. When the cooking is over, the Teaspoons will step out of their drawer to play. Tomorrow is Mr Baker's Birthday and a surprise Cake is ready in the fridge. But will the party be ruined by their naughty, hungry next drawer neighbours, the Knives?
The Teaspoon Family has been written by Nick Bromley, inspired by Lotte Moore's children's book The Teaspoon Family. Nick also managed the stage adaptation of Lotte's War (A Child's War), another book by Lotte Moore, which enjoyed rave reviews earlier this year at the brilliant Tabard Theatre.
ABOUT LOTTE MOORE
Chiswick-resident Lotte Moore has written more than 25 books including children's stories, novels, poems and short story collections. Her picture books include The Invisible Elephant, The Dinosaur Who Ate A Piano and, of course, The Teaspoon Family, which are enjoyed by young boys and girls around the world. As a child, Lotte lived in Kent with her parents who enjoyed entertaining, political debate and literary discussion with the likes of Charlie Chaplin, Winston Churchill, H E Bates, W H Auden and Benjamin Britten. She was often lonely and turned to writing (stories, diary, poems and letters) to express her feelings of isolation. In her early teens her commitment turned to ballet, point shoes replaced the pen. She was selected by the Royal Ballet School to dance in the Opera Ballet. When rejected for growing ‘too tall' Lotte turned to acting and intermittently to writing. She finally married aged 38 to her loyal husband Chris (who continues to support Lotte by typing out her hand-written stories). Lotte became immersed in her stepchildren and then her own two girls. When her daughters left home she describes "empty years" filled by illness and family problems, and she turned to writing once again. She gives her time freely to talk to young people in schools across the country and is passionate about inspiring children to read and write and become storytellers!
