Garden Centre announces animal antics at Grass Hoppers

The team at an award winning children's playground has planned an exciting summer of animal antics to keep children entertained during the holidays.

In addition to the extensive outdoor playground, visitors to Grass Hoppers Adventure Playground at Tong Garden Centre will also be able to get close to birds of prey and have the opportunity to raise money for children's cancer by riding a donkey or having their face painted.

York Bird of Prey Centre will be visiting Grass Hoppers between 10am and 4pm on 13th and 17th August and visitors will be able tohandle, ask questions about and have photographs taken with Roly the eagle owl; barn owl, Misty and Pip the white faced owl. This is a free event for visitors to Grass Hoppers.

Popular with both children and adults alike, the donkeys will be at Tong between 10am and 4pm every Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday throughout the holidays, subject to the weather. Rides cost £2.50 and 25 pence from each ride is being donated to the Leeds children's cancer charity, Candlelighters.  Face painting will also be available every Tuesday and Thursday and costs £3.00, with 30 pence benefitting the charity that supportsYorkshire families facing children's cancer.

Caroline Ellis, the newly appointed Play Manager at Grass Hoppers is looking forward to a fun filled summer: "The great weather is set to continue, so why not make the most of it with outdoor play?

"We know how hard it is for parents and carers to keep the children occupied throughout the long holiday, so we have put on extra activities to keep the children entertained whilst the adults can enjoy a cup of freshly brewed coffee or Yorkshire tea."

Entry to Grass Hoppers costs £4.50, with adults and under one's going free. A Summer Holiday pass is also available for £25 for unlimited* play until 2ndSeptember.

Grass Hoppers participates in the Max Card initiative that is designed to make days out more financially accessible for foster families and families of children with additional needs. The Max card price is £2.25.

The Candlelighters Trust (Candlelighters) is Yorkshire's pre-eminent children's cancer charity, providing practical, emotional and financial support to children living with cancer in Yorkshire and their families.

Tong Garden Centre is one of Yorkshire's biggest garden centres with 110,000 square feet of retail space and parking for up to 1,000 cars.
