East YorkshirePoultry business picks up more stars in Great Taste Awards

Middleton on the Wolds based chicken specialist Soanes Poultry has received further accolades for three of their products nominated for the prestigious fine food and drink accreditation scheme, The Great Taste Awards.

Stars were awarded for Soanes' Yorkshire chicken fillets, chicken supreme and Christmas cockerel crown after going through rounds of blind-taste testing.

The Great Taste awards are organised by the Guild of Fine Food and this year attracted over 12,000 entries that were judged by 500 industry specialists from top chefs to fine food retailers. It is widely acknowledged as the benchmark for artisan and speciality food producers.

Due to the success of Soanes chicken, both in this year's competition and in the 2016 (award for whole Yorkshire chicken) and the 2017 Great Taste awards when they were awarded stars for their free range chicken and whole Christmas cockerel, the business will be able to display the coveted Great Taste Producer logo for multiple wins in successive years.

Soanes Poultry's general manager Nigel Upson said: "We are overjoyed to have added to our string of stars from Great Taste as, not only is it a validation of our quality by industry professionals, but they represent an assurance to the customer that the product tastes exceptional.

"We put huge amounts of effort into rearing the birds for excellent taste and these accolades make their hard work even more worthwhile."

Judges feedback for the chicken fillet included ‘extremely juicy and with great flavour - neither of which are always the case with chicken breast fillet.  Texture pleasing. Well done, we'd definitely use this when we need chicken breast.'

With the Christmas cockerel crown, they remarked on the ‘very attractive looking crown, beautifully cooked.  A lovely aroma.  The texture was delightfully soft, moist and juicy and packed full of flavour.'

Soanes Poultry is a family owned business which has been rearing and preparing chicken for over 70 years. It employs almost 100 people and rears five million chickens a year on its Yorkshire farms and sells its chicken and game to butchers and independent retailers in Yorkshire and to wholesalers nationwide.
