Yorkshire's first malt whisky distillery celebrates launch of third Maturing Malt with Open Day


The team at Yorkshire's first malt whisky distillery is hosting a family open day to celebrate the launch of the third of its Distillery Projects series that are being released ahead of the first bottling of its premium single malt whisky in 2019.


Spirit of Yorkshire's first open day will take place at its distillery in Hunmanby, North Yorkshire between 10am and 7pm on Saturday 11thAugust and visitors will be able to participate in a host of whisky related activitiesfrom tasting sessions and masterclasses* to distillery tours, games and competitions.


Spirit of Yorkshire's director and co-founder, David Thompson is looking forward to welcoming people to Yorkshire's first whisky distillery: "Throughout the day, there will be opportunities for visitors tosee live whisky production, taste our new maturing spirit, learn the ancient art of coopering, meet two of the county's last working dray horses, enjoy refreshments from the Wold Top Brewery bar and Trotters barbeque and finish the day with live music from The Alastair James Band."


Of the launch of Distillery Projects 003, Spirit of Yorkshire Whisky Director, Joe Clark said:"Our new maturing Malt, Distillery Projects 003, marks the third instalment in our distillery project series forming a set of limited release bottlings that offer a unique and unrepeatable glimpse into our maturing casks that are made from ingredients that are grown and sourced on our family farm.


"DP003 is a soft, creamy and sweet spirit, with notes of milk chocolate, stoned fruits, banana split, pink wafer biscuits and orange zest. We're looking forward to hearing what our visitors think of it during the open day."


Adult tickets cost £7.50 for pre-booked tickets and £10 on the day and include access to all of the events and tastings on the day, a distillery tour, a Spirit of Yorkshire nosing glass and one drink token to redeem at the bar. Child tickets (6 to 18 years) cost £2.50 and include a soft drink and under 6's are free, but unfortunately cannot participate in the distillery tour. Tickets are available online at or by visiting the distillery shop between9.30am-5pm, Monday-Saturday and 10am-3pm on Sunday.

Distillery Project 003, 46% ABV, is limited to 2000 individually numbered 70cl bottles. The release is priced at £39.95 and is only available to buy through the website ( and from the distillery shop that is open seven days a week.


Distillery Projects 001 and 002 sold out within weeks of their launch dates in December and April respectively andDistillery Project 003 is expected to sell out even more quickly as the maturing malt becomes ever closer to the date that it can be called Yorkshire's first malt whisky.


In addition to distilling whisky and conducting guided tours, Spirit of Yorkshire is home to the Pot Still Coffee Shop that serves a variety of home cooked food and hosts regular events including weekly Jazz and Blues nights and special events. Forthcoming events include a Cask Owners Day (a private event that means that the Distillery will be closed to visitors) on 12thAugust, Distillery Sessions with Robert Schmuck on 27thJuly and a ‘Pot Still Pop Up'whisky-inspired three course mealfrom Birds on the Loose on 11th October.

The pair have invested significantly to follow their dream of creating a Yorkshire whisky that doesn't simply replicate Scotch.
