Mutech plays active role in standardising global certification
mut016/31.01.13
MutechLimited, which has 25 years experience in electronics design and manufacture of intrinsic safety equipment, is playing an active role in helping to simplify the global certification process relating to equipment used in hazardous areas, such as the mining, oil and gas industries.
Managing Director, Colin Cameron, has recently returned from an international meeting in Calgary, Canada of IECEx (International Electrotechnical Commission System for Certification to standards relating to equipment for use in explosive atmospheres), where he led the UK delegation for the week-long series of meetings. He comments: "It was my first attendance at IECEx, whose aim is to harmonise global standards, and it proved both successful and informative."
Member countries send delegations to the IECEx meetings to discuss and make decisions on the direction of IEC certification of equipment and people in hazardous areas.
Colin Cameron's expertise in the intrinsic safety markets was acknowledged when he was voted onto a working group, which reviewed the definition of documentation that manufacturers need to provide to certification bodies when submitting equipment designs for assessment.
Colin Cameron, who is Chairman of the UK-based L/6/10 Committee*, explains: "Test reports for assessment to IEC standards are becoming increasingly accepted worldwide as evidence towards local certification and manufacturers are greeting the news with enthusiasm."
He continues: "Very importantly it means that the process will simplify global certification and Mutech is playing an active part in bringing about that change."
MutechLtd designs, builds and tests internationally approved products for customers in the fields of hazardous areas and is involved in the design and production of electronic sensors and monitoring equipment. Areas include ATEX, IECEx, MSHA, CSA, MA, SANS etc.
The company embraces the wide spectrum of electronics, from specification, circuit design, software development, through approvals and testing, to prototype and low volume production.
