Spectacular Wolds sportive returns for fifth year running

Enthusiastic cyclists will be venturing back out into the Wolds thanks to the work of organisers and sponsors, including Wold Top Brewery, who have come together to host the Wolds 123 sportive for the fifth year running.

Riders on the Wolds 123 will have the chance to take in the best of the Wolds when the non-timed 123km event returns to the KP Club in Pocklington on Sunday, July 1st.

Participants will have the option to cycle the entire distance of the main route or can shorten it by missing eithera 25km loop or a 13 km loop along the way. The route takes in a number of climbs and the total elevation is 1,475 metres.

Kate Balchin, Export and Accounts Manager at Wold Newton based Wold Top Brewery, said they're proud to be supporting the Wolds 123 for the fifth consecutive year.

"As in previous years, some of the Wold Top team will be amongst the 100 participants. It's a great and incredibly scenic route, but not without its challenges, so the pint at the finish tends to be well deserved and much appreciated."

Alongside Wold Top Brewery, specialist bike shop Vive le Vélo, based in North Ferriby, will be supporting the event.

The organisers, David Hought and Richard Baldwin, who manage the Wold Top Actif Road Racing Team, have designed the route to pass some iconic points in interest in the area.

David said they were inspired by The KP Club in Pocklington, where the route begins, as a venue and for its scenic location. It has been the starting point for the sportive since the first event in 2014.

"There are somefantastic hill climbs and valleys such as Thixendale, and the ride passes through historic landmarks like Castle Howard.

"It's great to have Wold Top Brewery on board, showing theircontinuing support for cycling, and helping us showcase the Yorkshire Wolds and all it has to offer - both in scenery and local produce."

Registration takes place between 8am and 9am at the KP Club, where the ride will commence at 9.30am. Riders will be staggered to set off in small groups.

KerbEdge, a street food truck, will be on hand to refuel riders at Castle Howard with further refreshments available at the top of Thrussendale. All participants will be able to enjoy a meal and a bottle ofWold Top Brewery's Hello Velo beeron their return to The KP Club.

As the event coincides with stage 2 of the Tour de France, there will be the opportunity to follow the day's cycling action which will be screened at the venue.

Some members of the Wold Top Actif Road Racing team, also sponsored by Wold Top Brewery along with Keyo, Sandells, Pactimo and The Edge, will be riding the route to help marshal on the day.

Entries are now open online at a cost of £35 and all riders under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult during the event.
