  • Tennis elbow is the most common cause of elbow pain, mostly affecting people aged between 35 and 54.
  • Symptoms include pain and tenderness on the outside of your elbow and into your forearm, swelling and weakness.
  • Tennis elbow is inflammation of the tendons that attach into the outside of your elbow.
  • Myofascial Release treatment is provided by the specialist therapists at Holisticare, who can work with your body to find and treat the cause of your symptoms.

Expert Physiotherapist Nikki Robinson explains how to help yourself if you are suffering from tennis elbow:

4 tips on how to alleviate the pain from tennis elbow:

  • Try to reduce activities that you know make your symptoms worse.
  • Avoid repetitive movements of your hand and elbow and heavy lifting.
  • Try this gentle stretch: Keeping your arm straight in front with your palm facing down, gently bend your wrist down. Use the opposite hand to press the stretching hand until there is a pull but no pain. Hold at that point until you feel a softening or lengthening into your forearm. Stop if it makes your symptoms worse.
  • If your symptoms persist and are preventing you from carrying out your usual activities, getting treatment can help to stop the condition becoming chronic.

Nikki says; "In my experience, the inflammation from tennis elbow is caused by strain that is put on the area by tightness and restrictions elsewhere in your body. This is often linked to rotation of your pelvic bones. Every one of your cells is connected by a continuous web of fibres, so if the core of your body is in the wrong position, all the other areas have to compensate."
