Milton Keynes CNWL team prepares for cancer support hike

A group of CNWL therapists will be taking part in a fundraising hike to support a fellow team member whose son has been diagnosed with cancer.

The group, who work as part of CNWL and Milton Keynes Council's Home 1st Team, will be walking 26 miles on the Macmillan Mighty Hike on 9 June along the Thames path.

Karen Bridge, Home 1st Therapy Lead, said: "We are doing this to support a member of the team whose son has been diagnosed with cancer and she wanted to give something back to Macmillan and what they've done for her son. What she's been through has touched all of us and has driven us to do this.

"We have been training in preparation for this mighty hike and currently have achieved walks of 10.5 miles.  We are determined to cross the finish line, whether this is by walking, limping or crawling."

They have set up a fundraising page under JustGiving towards their target of £2,550 to take part in the walk on https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/home1st-hikers.

Other fundraising activities include a bag packing session at Morrisons in Westcroft on Sunday, 3 June, and a "Join the Home1st Hikers for lunch" (£2 per plate) from 12.30pm to 1.30pm on Friday 8 June.

They are also holding a raffle, with a suggested donation of £1 for five tickets, which is to be drawn on 8 June.

Tickets for the raffle and details about the lunch are available from lauren.lofts@nhs.net or directly from the Home1st Therapy office.

The Home 1st therapy team is based at the Bletchley Community Hospital.
