Make recycling cheaper by outsourcing, says Prismm Environmental

Carton manufacturers can save huge costs by outsourcing their recycling services, according to specialist print and packaging recycling consultancy Prismm Environmental.

Dealing with recycling services can be time consuming dealing with contractors, chasing invoices and ensuring that everything is collected when you want it to be.

This means staff are caught up looking after this when they could be doing much more productive business tasks.

But by outsourcing, you can keep exactly the same service, and do it cheaper.

Prismm Environmental managing director Mike Jackson says: "Many companies give responsibility for their recycling collections to the admin team. But this means they are not doing tasks that bring cash into the business, or they don't have the expertise to understand the recycling market properly.

"For carton manufacturers, your focus should be on your customers, ensuring you provide them with the product they need, when they need it.

"By outsourcing your recycling service, we will look after your materials and do all the work for you. Plus, it will be a lot cheaper than if you do it yourself. You might be surprised at how little the cost of outsourcing can be, without any of the hassle.

"The recycling sector is undergoing a seismic change as global markets for recovered materials introduce new, more stringent quality controls. Managing production waste and scrap materials to ensure they achieve best value demands a high degree of market expertise, attention to detail and resource and we provide that expertise too."

Jackson says that the smarter and more cost-effective approach is to put in place recycling expertise and support when you need it most.

"Manage your waste materials just as you would your accounts.  Put in the expertise and resource when you need it, allowing your direct employees to focus on your core activities," he adds.

An expert recycling consultant, he suggests, will have wider industry knowledge, more contacts, and will be quicker to complete the critical tasks. They can take care of the tricky negotiations and processes such as contract negotiations and reviewing new market opportunities. In addition, many can provide a back-office team giving administrative support as required.

"It's a leaner, smarter approach which offers significant savings over direct employment," he says.
