Throughout July and August, New Craftsman Gallery St Ives presents an exhibition of work by Neil Davies, one of Cornwall's finest contemporary landscape painters, with an accompanying collection of work by leading British ceramicist Chris Keenan and jeweller Emily Nixon.

In this new collection of paintings, entitled ‘The Lie of the Land', Davies explores the contrast between the underlying structure of the landscape, and the endless seasonal change that affects its surface. Combining a vibrant palette with swiftly applied brush stokes, poured paint, and shimmering detail, these paintings respond to changes in the light, the turning of the seasons, bursts of floral colour, and the cycle of Atlantic weather systems on Cornwall's beautiful far west landscape, which is affected daily by rain, wind, sun, or completely hidden by cool sea mists, even in the heat of high summer.

Accompanying this exhibition is a collection of new work by respected potter Chris Keenan. Previously apprenticed to Edmund de Waal and now established as one of the UKs leading makers, Keenan's functional work is known for its purity of form and colour, and more recently for the interactive nature of his ‘Extra Curricular' works, which invite the viewer to handle and physically engage with groups of pots. His works are held in collections at the V&A and Ashmolean Museums.

A collection of handcrafted, ‘sea worn' gold and silver jewellery by Emily Nixon will also be on show.
