Five things you may not know about SterlingOSB

When SterlingOSB first landed on the market inYEAR, its striking visual appearance, (layers and layers of oriented strand board pressed together) was a little unusual.

Today, SterlingOSB is firmly recognised as the go-to resource in construction. Its flexibility of application - from hoarding to roofing and flooring - makes it a key resource on any building site, regardless of the size of the project.

Of course, there are other applications too. Due to its visual appeal, we see SterlingOSB being showcased creatively in its rawest of form in restaurants, cafes, bars, retail outlets, pop-up villages, adventure parks, festivals - as well as being used by architects and artists to create incredible works of art.

That said, its core function and purpose firmly remains in the realm of construction and, to that end, commitment to innovation for SterlingOSB at Norbord HQ continues to focus on improving the product to make it even more fit for purpose.

So, let's take a look at five new aspects we've introduced to SterlingOSB that you may not be aware of:

SterlingOSB3 - ideal for housebuilding and construction

Sterling OSB3 is our strongest ever version of SterlingOSB. We've continued to iterate the development since launch and are now at SterlingOSB3. It's designed to withstand the toughest of conditions. Stronger and tougher than most soft plywood, thanks to the tens of thousands of real wood strands that go into every board - it's perfect for structural use in load bearing and challenging conditions. SterlingOSB3 also performs well in humid conditions, making it the ideal resource for house building and construction.

SterlingOSB3 Tongue & Groove - ideal for flat roof decking and flooring

We've engineered a tongue and groove application - making it even simpler to work with and providing a smoother finish. Our precision-engineered tongue & groove board is ideal for use in flat roof decking and flooring applications. No knots, no voids and, due to the precision engineering, you get the same high quality with every single board.

SterlingOSB3 RoofDek - ideal for housebuilding and construction

All the features and benefits of our strongest ever SterlingOSB3, designed specifically for roofing. SterlingOSB RoofDek is engineered specifically for roofing applications, the tongue & groove panels remove the need for noggins or dwangs by providing structural support at long edges.

Designed to withstand the elements, it performs in load bearing humid conditions making it ideal for housebuilding and construction. The tongue & groove profile also helps elongate the lifespan of roofing felts as it removes the possibility of boards moving up and down. A roof designed to last for sure.

SterlingOSB StongFix - ideal for dry-lining applications

SterlingOSB StrongFix is an OSB panel designed to be used in dry lining applications. It's simple to fit and highly versatile. Suitable for domestic and commercial use, it provides secure anchorage areas, ideal for fixing heavy fixtures to stud walls such as; cabinets, radiators, wash basins, railings and anything else that is heavy and needs to be secured.

SterlingOSB BuildBoard - ready for painting straight after fixing

SterlingOSB BuildBoard has been specifically designed so it's ready for painting straight after fixing. Factory coated and filled on both sides, SterlingOSB BuildBoard is finished with a smooth coating that is easy to paint straight after fixing. Plus, this is a neutral colour, which reduces the overall cost of finishing.

SterlingOSB BuildBoard can be used wherever a smooth finish is required - strength, flexibility and a quality finish, in a fraction of the time.

So, there you go - some features that you may not have been aware of. And of course, all of this continuous innovation comes with our focus on a low carbon foot print, eco friendly coatings, sourcing timber locally and in line with FSC and other timber, safety and manufacturing regulations.
