North Yorkshire malt whisky distillery offers free refreshments

North Yorkshire malt whisky distillery offers free refreshments to cycling visitors during Tour de Yorkshire

In celebration of the Tour de Yorkshire, visitors who arrive at Yorkshire's first malt whisky distillery by bike between 3rdand 6thMay will be rewarded for their endeavours with a free hot drink and a slice of cake.

Stage three of the Tour starts in Richmond and riders pass within a couple of miles of the Hunmanby based Spirit of Yorkshire distillery as they travel towards the finish in Scarborough.

Sprit of Yorkshire co-founder and keen cyclist, David Thompson, explained the rationale of the initiative: "We want to encourage people to get on their bikes to appreciate the beauty of our coastal surroundings. We're only three miles away from Filey and 10 away from Bridlington and Scarborough, so what better incentive than to hop on your bike than a free cuppa and cake in our Pot Still Coffee Shop at the end of your ride?

"Our Coffee Shop is open seven days a week, all year round and our ample car park means that Spirit of Yorkshire is a great place to start or finish a ride. All of our cakes are hand made by our team and we serve Yorkshire Tea and coffee from Yorkshire roaster, Dark Woods."

The Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery was awarded a Welcome Award in theAttractions Accolades in appreciation of the outstanding experiences they have provided since they opened their visitor attraction in April 2017. Its visitor offeringincludes daily whisky tours and tastings, locally sourced, home-made refreshments at The Pot Still Coffee Shop, events, music nights and distilling experiences.

Forthcoming events at the Pot Still Coffee Shop at The Spirit of Yorkshire include weekly Jazz and Blues nights and a Distillery Session featuring Robert Schmuck on 27thApril. Tours of the Distillery last an hour and run seven days a week at 10am, 12pm, 2pm and 4pm and the Pot Still Coffee Shop is open from 9.30am - 5pm Monday - Saturday, 10am - 3pm Sundays.

Notes to editors

  1. Early signs of their success include selling out of their first Maturing Malt 001 in only four weeks, glowing feedback from industry professionals and healthy visitor numbers. The maturing malt gives a flavour of what the first malt whisky will taste like when it is bottled in 2019. Maturing Malt 002 was released in March and is selling well as the maturing malt becomes ever closer to the date that it can be called a malt whisky.
