Detta Heritage Craft Knitwear to launch new Home collection at the British Craft Trade Fair

Local textile designer Berni Raeside-Bell will launch her new DETTA Home Collection at the British Craft Trade Fair in Harrogate 8-10th April and then will take the new collection to the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York at the end of May.

Based in her studio in Kegworth Village, Berni designs for knit and print and her work is inspired by our rich island coastline, with patterns based on her actual knit swatches and ink and bleach sketchbooks.

Detta Textiles is the brand name of Irish born and UK based textile designer maker Berni Raeside-Bell. Launched in 2015, Berni creates knitted scarves, wraps and accessories as well as interiors in 100% British-Spun Lambswool on vintage framework knitting machines. She has also recently launched a range of accessories using British Wool including scarves and throws as well as a collection of designs for digitally printed wallpapers and fabrics.

Berni creates each knitted item by hand powered knitting machine then washed, felted and hand finished in the studio into the final product.

Her metallic print designs are based on her sketches around the British, Irish and Atlantic coastline and are hand screen printed by her on to the finished knitted item, finally then she adds the metallic foils. Her skills in both knit and textile print have allowed Berni to develop these very unique products which are very much seen as one-off pieces of art and are numbered as such. She's recently supplied both the British Museum and the Royal Academy of Art in London and supplies shops, museums and galleries with her work.

Berni's work received a highly commended accolade at the Heritage Crafts Association Awards Final in 2017 as well as reaching the final in the Giftware Association Awards in 2017 in the Handmade in Britain category. Her work was also selected as part of the Global Irish Design Competition Exhibition in 2016 & 2017 with the Crafts Council of Ireland in both Dublin Castle and the Irish Centre for Craft and Design in Kilkenny.

"I'm so looking forward to launching the DETTA Home collection. The first part of the launch is the handcrafted knit collection, which will be launched at BCTF.  Part two, which is the wallpaper, printed cushions & fabrics collection will be launched in New York at the ICFF with the British European Design Group and my work will feature alongside other established artisans. It's the first time I will have shown my work in America and I'm very excited about what this may mean for my business and looking forward to meeting interior designers and architects that want to specify and buy British design & craft textiles."
