Yorkshire Wolds brewery wins independent beer award

The team at a Wold Newton based brewery is celebrating after one of its beers won an industry award.

Further to its success at the World Gluten Free Beer awards last month, Wold Top Brewery's Marmalade Porter's won a bronze award in the SIBA (Society of Independent Brewers) regional Independent Keg Beer Awards.

Marmalade Porter was one of 450 beers from eight SIBA regions that were judged across 10 categories and won the award in theKeg Porters, Stouts, Old Ales, Strong Milds & Strong Brown Alescategory for the North East SIBA region. Judging took place during SIBA's BeerX, the UK's independent craft brewing trade show, at the Exhibition Centre, Liverpool last week.

Brewery manager Alex Balchin said: "It's fantastic news that Marmalade Porter can win an award in a worldwide gluten free competition one month and then win an industry award as a ‘mainstream' beer the next."

Marmalade Porter, 5% ABV, is arich, dark porter with a sweet malty base and overtones of bitter orange and hints of coffee and chocolate. The term‘Porter' came about as a result of the popularity of this type of beer with Eighteenth Century street and river porters.

Marmalade Porter also won United Kingdom's best Porter at the World Beer Awards 2017.
