PRESS RELEASE                                                                   Wednesday January 10, 2018

FUNDRAISER IN CHRIS’S MEMORY WILL SUPPORT MACMILLAN NURSES

Macmillan Cancer Support is a charity close to many people’s hearts, and none more so than Sally Foley, from Hutton Cranswick in East Yorkshire, who has organised her second fundraising event to support them.

Sally, who is a director of James Foley Electrical Ltd, the company run by her electrician son James, sadly lost her husband Chris to cancer in 2013 at the age of 53. The untimely death of a treasured husband and father was inevitably devastating to the Foley family but they took great comfort from the care and kindness they received from the Macmillan team at the Queen’s Centre for Oncology and Haematology, at Castle Hill Hospital.

“I don’t know what it would have been like without our Macmillan nurse,” said Sally. “She was amazing and I can’t thank the Macmillan nurses as well as the Queen’s Centre staff enough for the care and respect they gave Chris and all his relatives.”

Sally and her son James, who after his father’s passing felt driven to set up his own business at the age of 21 to “make him proud”, have both raised funds previously for Macmillan and the hospital. James donated money in lieu of presents for his 22nd birthday the year after his dad died, and Sally hosted a hog roast in January 2017, which raised a massive £8,300 for the good cause. The money they raised has so far helped fund a specialist cancer nurse and reclining chairs for hospital visitors.

Sally added: “The small things can really matter for families and friends who spend a lot of time at the hospital with their loved ones. Having access to a reclining chair, especially if you are staying overnight, makes a big difference.”

So, with this in mind, Sally has arranged another fundraising evening for 300 people to let their hair down with song, dance and good food on Friday February 9, 2018. The event will be held at 7pm in the Rix Pavilion at Driffield Showground, with guests paying £20 a head to enjoy a pie and pea supper, bar, a sumptuous cheese board, and dancing late into the night with music from local band Loose Coverz.

They are aiming to match if not better last year’s donations, which will again go towards funding a specialist nurse and helping to make patients and their families more comfortable.

“The venue is amazing. It will be a great night, the band play all the big hits across the decades from rock and roll to pop and create a fantastic party atmosphere. We’ll also hold a raffle with tonnes of fabulous prizes,” said Sally.

If you’d like to book and help raise money for a worthy local cause please call Sally on 07739 226747.
