Salvation for broadband slowest street

Release date: November 20, 2012

‘SLOWEST STREET FOR BROADBAND' GIVEN ROUTE TO FAST INTERNET

Residents of Lincolnshirehave been given the chance to solve the internet problem that has led to them being branded among the ‘worst in the UK'.

A report last week by uSwitch.com claimed that Cromarty Road in Stamford was No. 1 in the 50 slowest streets in the UK in terms of average broadband connection speeds. Burghley Road in Lincoln was rated the fourth worst in the country.

But, according to an internet expert, a satellite broadband service is now available that can end the ‘street of shame' tag by solving the broadband speed problem immediately.

Avonline Broadband managing director Mark Wynn said: "Roads such as Cromarty Roadmay suffer from slow speeds because of their location, distance from the exchange or simply because BT plans for high speed broadband aren't due to reach them for some time.

"But satellite broadband can now bring superfast internet connection to anyone immediately, without the need for digging up roads to lay cables, at a price that compares very favourably with traditional internet providers."

Avonline Broadband is the country's largest provider of the Tooway satellite broadband service. The latest Next Generation technology can connect householders to the internet even where traditional internet providers are unable to deliver a reliable service. In recent weeks the available download speeds have been almost doubled - to a high-speed 18Mbps for some packages.

"We know this new service can be a boon in areas of the UK struggling to receive a good service via land lines," said Mark.

"Satellite internet access guarantees the same high level of performance in every location regardless of landscape - on the top of a mountain, in the middle of the countryside, in a small isolated village or a city street. All you need is a small 74cm dish and a modem."

He added: "Unlike traditional fixed line broadband, satellite download speeds do not drop when neighbours are using the service, so an 18 Mbps service from a satellite can deliver a true 18 Mbps download speed*- great for accessing the internet and especially streaming High Definition video.

"We have doubled the data allowances to allow users to take full advantage of the many online entertainment services now available.

"These new high-speed options mean fast reliable broadband is genuinely available to anyone in the UK today."

Using Tooway Broadband from Avonline can also mean free telephone calls via the internet, and subscription-free HD TV through the same dish.

Further information about the new Tooway satellite broadband from Avonline is available at www.avonlinebroadband.co.uk.

*According to an Ofcom report of February this year, for ADSL services currently advertised at ‘up to' 20/24Mbps the average speeds received by customers was just 7.6Mbps.

For rural customers paying for ‘up to' 20/24Mbps, the average broadband speed received was just 3.3Mbps
