Devon's leading tourism businesses have been chosen for the finals of the Devon Tourism Awards which will be presented at a prestigious ceremony next month.

There are now 12 categories in the competition which has grown in stature since it was first launched in 2010 to celebrate the cream of the Devon tourism industry. More businesses have applied for the competition than ever before with 37 finalists selected. The Arundell Arms Hotel at Lifton has been nominated for three awards, The Horn of Plenty Hotel at Gulworthy, the Northcote Manor Country House Hotel at Umberleigh, Mazzard Farm Holiday Cottages at Ottery St Mary, and the Devon Cliffs Holiday Parks at Exmouth have all been nominated for two awards each.
The best business will then be selected from the 12 categories for the coveted Winner of Winners Award. The winners will be announced at a spectacular Awards Ceremony which will be hosted by BBC Radio Devon's Judy Spiers on 22 November at the Saunton Sands Hotel in North Devon.
Successful businesses in the Devon Awards will then be fast tracked into the South West Tourism Excellence Awards in February 2013 and then possibly on to the National VisitEngland Awards later in 2013.
The Chairman of the Devon Tourism Partnership, Laura Holt, says that the popularity of the awards reflect the wide range of high quality tourism businesses available in Devon which can take on the best in the UK; "So many Devon tourism attractions, restaurants and accommodation providers have continued to invest in their businesses that it has made it very difficult to choose the finalists when standards are so high. The competition gets better each year and it provides a great way for local businesses to showcase their services and to raise their profile to a much wider audience."
Clare Bushby, the Managing Director of Clockwork Marketing, which is sponsoring the Devon Tourism Awards said:"The difference between good and great in this industry is a massive chasm, one that these businesses negotiate daily. For me, these Awards are a well-deserved pat on the back - congratulations and good luck to all this year's finalists!" www.clock-work.co.uk
