PRESS RELEASE

Sutton school steps up from “satisfactory” to “good” in new inspection

A Sutton Coldfield school is celebrating making the massive step from being rated as “satisfactory” to “good” in a new inspection.

Ofsted – the Government body charged with rating schools – says that New Hall Primary and Children’s Centre in Langley Hall Drive which has more than 200 pupils has made huge strides since its previous inspection in 2010.

Key points noted by Ofsted included:

·         Standards have been rising steadily since the previous inspection and are now securely average.

  • Achievement is good because the number of pupils making the nationally expected progress compares well with national data but the number making more progress is better.
  • The quality of teaching and learning is good at all stages so pupils of all ages and at all levels of attainment make good progress.
  • Behaviour in lessons is mostly good or outstanding. Pupils settle to their tasks quickly and sustain their concentration well over time.
  • Attendance has improved rapidly over the last three years and is now above the national average.
  • School leaders and managers do a good job and have been responsible for the school moving from satisfactory at the previous inspection to good.
  • The capacity for this school to improve even more is good.

Beverley Hanks, Head Teacher, who joined New Hall in 2009, said: “Moving up from a ‘satisfactory’ to a ‘good’ rating has meant a lot of hard work here by pupils, parents and staff. Everyone has done fantastically well and we are very proud indeed.

“What is perhaps most encouraging is that the Ofsted inspectors rated some key elements of the school as ‘outstanding’ and, next time around, we hope to make the next step up and become recognised as an outstanding school.

“It is no secret that many children living in Falcon Lodge do not have some of the material advantages enjoyed by others living across the Sutton Coldfield area and so having access to high quality education is crucial for their futures.”
