PRESS RELEASE

Managing and finance directors becoming key motivators of dealer recruitment reform

Managing and finance directors are starting to become the key motivators when it comes to reforming dealer recruitment practices, says jobco-op automotive.

This is occurring because these people are ideally placed to see the impact of rapid staff turnover and high recruitment costs on their business, explained director Derek Webb.

He said: “Human resources departments within dealerships where there is a recruitment issue are generally in favour of making changes but often do not get the backing of senior management.

“It is where managing and finance directors start to take an interest in the subject that there tends to be successful and lasting change. When people in the top positions start to perceive recruitment as a problem, they can push through a genuine cultural transformation.

“This is something that we are starting to see happen more often. Clearly, at this time, management are firmly focussed on cost minimisation and opportunity maximisation, and a high staff turnover runs counter to both these objectives.”

Derek added that dealerships that minimised staff turnover and spent more time recruiting and retaining the right people were usually those that enjoyed better profitability and growth.

He said: “From our knowledge of dealer recruitment across the industry, we can see that the largest and most profitable dealerships are usually those where there is a successful recruitment policy in place and that it is carefully followed.

“These dealerships reap the benefits of a stable and committed workforce. In businesses where staff move on quickly, managing and finance directors are increasingly identifying recruitment as something that is having a direct impact on their profitability.”

Launched in June, jobco-op automotive is a new online recruitment platform for the motor industry, It is lead by a team of four of the best known names in the motor industry. Alongside Derek Webb are three other directors - Shaun Price, Ken Trinder and Brenda Webb. Its offices are based in Castle Donington, Leicestershire.
