East Yorkshire poultry business marks 70thanniversary

A Middleton on the Wolds poultry supplier is marking seventy years in business with a series of events to celebrate reaching the milestone.

T.Soanes and Son was launched in 1947 at Church Hill Farm where the factory now stands when Tom Soanes and his son, Clive began trading the poultry that they had reared on their Yorkshire Wolds farms. Today it employs 100 staff, rears over five million chickens from its 11 farms and supplies its premium poultry nationwide.

The company has created a new anniversary logo to mark the occasion, has produced a commemorative recipe booklet and has plans for a summer BBQ for staff and growers.

General manager Nigel Upson said the anniversary is testament to T. Soanes and Son's reputation as a leading quality poultry supplier:"Reaching seventy years in our business is no mean feat. We are all extremely proud to be part of this established and respected poultry business that still retains the same values that Tom and Clive established seven decades ago.

"Their commitment was, and ours is still, to rear poultry to high standards of welfare so that the end product is tasty and succulent."

In addition to producing poultry for butchers, farm shops and independent retailers throughout the UK, T. Soanes and Sonalsosupplies game to a number of wholesalers and retail outlets.

The idea for a commemorative booklet entitled ‘A celebration of 70 years of T.Soanes & Son in recipes' came from sales manager, Tom Kingston. Featuring a foreword from Margaret Soanes, wife of the late Clive, the booklet contains 10 recipes and will be available from stockists of T. Soanes and Son poultry.

The new anniversary logo has been incorporated into the livery of a new 26-tonne truck and on the label for whole chickens, where it sits alongside the business's Red Tractor accreditation and one-star Great Taste Award from the Guild of Fine Food.

T.Soanes and Son was recently announced as the winner of the Environmental Initiative of the Year category at the Meat and Poultry Processing Awards 2017, after beating stiff competition from industry giants Cranswick and Moy Park.
