Yorkshire has a sweet spot for pudding firm

Treats from a pudding maker based on the edge of Darlington are proving to tempt Yorkshire customers with a penchant for sweet things.

Products from Burtree Puddings, based at Burtree Gate, are now available at two new Yorkshire addresses.

Brymor Dairy, near Masham, is already an established ice cream parlour and has recently opened a farm shop on site atHigh Jervaulx Farm.

The farm shop has stocked a wide range of Sticky Puddings from Burtree since it opened four months ago.

Rhubarb and Roses, the Bedale greengrocers, is offering, for the first time, Burtree's entire range of Christmas Puddings which come in Deluxe, Traditional and Gluten-free varieties.

Chief baker and partner at Burtree Puddings Lea Darling said supplying Yorkshire-based businesses is a real delight for them.

"We always do our utmost to support other small local businesses, and when we are at events, we are always telling our customers where they can get more puddings.

"With these two new stockists, we can now point our customers to Brymor Farm Shop and Rhubarb and Roses, as well as all our other Yorkshire stockists."

Currently, products from Burtree Puddings, also members of Deliciously Yorkshire, are stocked in Harrogate's Fodder, Beadlam Grange Farm Shop near Helmsley, and Bert's Barrow in Hillam, North Yorkshire.

"There are many wonderful delis, farm shops and independent retailers in the region. It would be great to have our products in as many Yorkshire outlets as possible - we'd love to have our puddings in restaurants too."

Sales of the puddings at Brymor Farm Shop have been going well, said operations director Nicola Moore.

"When we launched the Farm Shop, we wanted to collaborate with the best of the region's producers. In this way, Burtree Puddings fit the bill because the whole company puts an emphasis on quality," she added.

"They use traditional flavours that everyone loves, from chocolate to lemon, and I like the homemade quality to their products, and the superior ingredients."

Caroline Robson, owner of Rhubarb and Roses, said: "We first came across Burtree Puddings a few years ago at a food show.

"My husband is a big fan of Christmas puddings, and he was very impressed by them - in fact, he thought they tasted far better than any other he's had, and he's had a lot."

Alongside fruit and vegetables, the greengrocers sell a range of products from quality, artisan and local suppliers. Caroline added: "We like to ensure that we cater for gluten-free customers, and being able to offer customers the gluten-free pudding from Burtree is ideal."

All the puddings from Burtree Puddings have been awarded at least one prestigious Great Taste Award.

The Christmas Puddings are made to Lea's own recipe using different blends of alcohol for each variety, ranging from the traditional brandy to the more unusual apple cider.

Burtree Puddings products are sold at independent farm shops, delis, cafés and retailers in England, Scotland and Wales.
