Avesta Scotland named Nullifire Premier Contractor of the Year

The first company to win the new Nullifire Premier Contractor of the Year award is Avesta Scotland.

Avesta Scotland is one of 14 specialist contractors which have undergone extensive training on Nullifire's products to join the Nullifire Premier Contractors Scheme.

During a 40-year history of offering outstanding passive fire protection systems, Nullifire has recognised that implementing a successful solution depends to a large degree on the skill of contractor partners.

Nullifire launched the Premier Contractors Scheme to recognise this fact and to encourage more contractors to develop their expertise with its range of products.

To qualify for membership of this elite group, approved contractors must demonstrate both their commitment to training and consistently high standards of professionalism on site.

The winner of the inaugural Premier Contractor of the Year award was chosen on the basis of the work carried out over the past year and feedback from main contractors.

"We spoke to a lot of tier one contractors and received very positive feedback about all of the finalists," says Nullifire's Steve Plater. "But it was clear that Avesta Scotland was head and shoulders above the rest".

"Each member of Avesta Scotland's workforce is fully qualified to NVQ Level 2 - and that's almost unheard-of. Also, since launching the company less than six years ago, Sharon Lobban and Stephen McClure [Avestas's joint managing directors] have built the company into one of the UK's biggest fire protection contractors. They have a business model that others would do well to emulate."

The award was presented to the Avesta Scotland workforce after they had been called in to the company's headquarters in Kilmarnock for a ‘special announcement' in August.

"They didn't know in advance that they'd won the award, so the reaction of the staff when we delivered the news was just amazing," says Steve. "They were just over the moon. There was real pride in their achievement and you could tell that the company has 100 percent commitment from its workforce."

Steve believes that the award has underlined the success of the Nullifire Premier Contractors scheme and will inspire other partner contractors to step up to the mark. He concludes "Avesta Scotland has set the bar high but the team is not resting on their laurels. The award is now theirs to lose and they're not going to give it up easily!"
