Artisan pudding maker to give English Heritage visitors a taste of Christmas
An artisan pudding maker will be supplying English Heritage shops across England with luxury Christmas Puddings after securing a deal with the historical heritage charity.
Burtree Puddings, based on the edge of Darlington, was asked by English Heritage to supply shops at selected key sites spanning the length and breadth of the country with their range of Christmas puddings.
Their Traditional and Deluxe puddings will be on sale in English Heritage shops at the sites of Stonehenge, Kenwood House, Dover Castle, Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens, Audley End House, Kenilworth Castle, Wrest Park, Whitby Abbey and Brodsworth Hall from October.
This is the first deal the pudding specialists, also members of The Guild of Fine Food, have secured on a national scale, said Lea Darling, who runs the family business with husband Robert.
It means their products will be sold in counties as far south as Kent, Wiltshire and Essex; in the capital and in Northumberland and Yorkshire.
"We're delighted to be supplying these English Heritage sites, and we hope customers will be pleased with our handmade, quality Christmas Puddings.
"One of our aims is to reach out to pudding fans across the nation, as well as grow the online sales for our entire range, so to have our products stocked further afield is a really positive step for us."
Lea was approached by the retail buyer of food and drink at English Heritage, Tracy Davoile, at the Harrogate Fine Food Show.
"We love the packaging, ingredients and flavour of these Christmas Puddings by Burtree - it's the quintessential English pudding and it will fit in with the rest of our Christmas offering," said Tracy.
"The sites we have chosen to stock the Christmas Puddings are our biggest and busiest which are open on weekends throughout the Christmas period so we hope as many of our customers as possible will be able to see our Christmas range.
"This is an artisan product from Burtree Puddings that has been given a Great Taste Award, which would always catch your eye.
"We also wanted to offer something you cannot pick up on the local high street."
Lea created the recipes for their three Christmas Puddings, which includes a gluten-free version, although it is Robert who now makes them.
The puddings are made daily in batches of up to 300 in the run-up to Christmas at Burtree House Farm where the business is based.
Christmas puddings from Burtree Puddings, and their other products, can be bought online via their website and are available from a number of independent outlets including farm shops, delis and food stores across England, Scotland and Wales.
