BARKING HEADS SEARCH FOR NEXT STAR BAKER IN THE GREAT BRITISH ‘BARK OFF’
The Great British Bake Off-inspired ‘Bark Off’ has been launched, with the aim of finding the UK’s best canine star baker.
Run by premium dog food brand Barking Heads, TheGreat British Bark Offencourages pet owners to create a healthy dog-friendly batch of show stopping canine cookies.
The competition will be judged on the presentation of the final entries, with the aim of showing how baking can also be beneficial for our pups when healthy, nutritious pet recipes are used.
Inspiration for the competition has been drawn from the ‘showstopper round’ of the popular TV programme, where contestants bake a spectacular creation, showcasing technical and decorative baking skills. We are looking for fun yummy and creatively decorated canine cookies.
Paul Hunter, co-founder of Barking Heads has said, “Everybody is unashamedly glued to their television screens on Wednesday evenings awaiting the next instalment of The Great British Bake Off.
“However, as most pet owners are aware, feeding our pets human-baked goods can be detrimental to their health and cause serious problems.
“Our ‘Bark Off’ recipe is nutritious, delicious and a real showstopper. We want to encourage everyone to have a go and find out how much fun pet-baking can be in our Bark Off competition”.
To enter, send pictures to Barking Heads through Twitter (@BarkingHeads), Instagram (@BarkingHeads) and Facebook (/NaturalPetFoodforDogsandCatsbyBarkingHeads) or visit: http://www.barkingheads.co.uk/
The winner will be announced alongside the final of the show on November 2nd.

Recipe:
Baileys “WHEATFREE ‘n’ EASY!!” Bites
250 gram cups brown rye flour
2 tbs flax seed or milled linseed
2 extra large eggs, lightly beaten
180 ml vegetable or fruit puree
60 ml cold water or enough to make the dough stick or for puppies add goat’s milk.
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 170 c.
Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
Combine the brown rye flour and flax/linseed in a large bowl.
Mix eggs and puree together in a separate bowl until smooth.
Add half of the egg mixture to the brown rye mixture, stir, then add the rest and stir again with a wooden spoon or spatula.
Add water slowly, as needed. Use your hands to knead the dough together.
Roll dough out between two pieces of waxed or parchment paper to desired thickness (about 1/4" thick).
Remove top piece of paper, flip dough onto a counter coated with brown rye flour, remove wax paper, and then cut biscuits using a knife or cookie cutter.
Re-roll and cut scraps until you’ve used every possible bit of dough.
Place biscuits on lined baking sheets (or sheets lightly greased).
Bake for 30 to 45 minutes until the top of the biscuit has dried out completely. Let biscuits cool on wire racks, then store in an airtight container.
“Yummy scrummy in their tummy!!” Says Bailey the Barking Heads dog, “WOOF WOOF!”
