T.Soanes & Sonscoops first accolade from Great Taste Awards

The team at Middleton-on-the-Wolds poultry business T.Soanes & Son is celebrating after itswhole grain-fed chickenwas awarded a gold star award in the Guild of Fine Food Great Taste Awards.

The winning poultry is reared on the company's farms in the Yorkshire Wolds and is air-chilled for flavour and freshness.

Tom Kingston, T.Soanes & Son sales manager, hopes the Great Taste accreditation will help to endorse their chicken further in line with the growth in demand for their products, especially in the south of England.

He said: "Only 3,500 products out of the 10,000 entered were awarded stars, so we're delighted that our chicken is considered amongst the best. Being able to place the Great Taste Awards logo on our chicken demonstrates that it is an exceptional product for its taste alone, and we're very proud to have been accredited by the Guild of Fine Food."

The team at T.Soanes & Son has further reason to celebrate following the company's shortlisting in the Regional Growth category of the Food and Drink Federation (FDF) Awards that showcase and celebrate thetalent, creativity and passion demonstrated by the people and businesses inthe food and drink sector.

Kingston continued: "We have our fingers crossed for results night at the FDF Awards ceremony but we're very pleased to have reached the final alongside just three other businesses."

Businesses shortlisted in the Regional Growth category were asked to demonstrate their ambition of growth and sustainability.

Ian Wright, director general at FDF, said:"We received a huge number of entries from across the food and drink sector. They represented a wide range of the most innovative names in the industry, from growers, retailers, artisan producers and big global brands to SMEs.

"It was a very difficult task to make a shortlist but, along with our expert judging panel, we are really pleased with the number of entrants and our eventual finalists. This is a great reminder to us all of the talented and dedicated colleagues we have in Britain's food and drink industry."

The winners of the FDF Awards 2016 will be announced during a gala evening hosted bybroadcaster and presenter Hardeep Singh Kohli on September 22atThe Brewery in London.
